I’ve wanted to try coloring with bleach for awhile now, but I’ll be honest, I was a bit scared to try it. First of all, I didn’t want to ruin any of my supplies or my clothes for that matter. But the other day, I threw on some old clothes, cleared off my desk so I didn’t ruin anything else and got to work! I have to say, it really wasn’t that bad and I think I was a bit overdramatic about this technique LOL! I do want to say that this card/technique video was highly inspired by Terri Burson (make sure to check out her blog post and video tutorial HERE). I was also incredibly happy to that I added in the Perfect Pearls for that extra bit of shimmer! Make sure to watch the video below to see the entire cardmaking process!
ENJOY!!
Starting with a piece of black card stock that measured 4″ x 5.25″ and the “Fresh Bouquet” stamp set from Inspired by Stamping, I used my MISTI and Versamark ink to stamp the flower bouquet on the top of the card stock. I also stamped the “thinking of you” sentiment from the stamp set below in the same ink. After sprinkling on some princess gold embossing powder I heat set both images.
For the actual bleaching portion I would suggest using an old brush you don’t mind getting ruined. I used an old kids paint brush, and a glass container from my cosmeotology school days. After putting in a few scoops of Gold Perfect Pearls I added a bit of bleach, it doesn’t take much, and gave it a stir. Now the mixture will settle, so you need to give it a quick stir each time you dip your brush. All there was to this technique was adding the bleach inside the lines of the embossed image and then adding a bit of heat to intensify the results. The embossed lines act as a well to hold the bleach in place so it makes for extra easy and quick coloring! Also, you don’t necessarily have to add the heat, but I found it really intensifies the reaction you get from the bleach and also seems to intensify the shimmer as well!
I let my panel dry and then after attaching two strips of gold glitter card stock on both sides of an A2 top folding card base with double sided adhesive I popped up the bleach panel onto the card base with the same adhesive and fun foam. To add a bit more interest and shine to the panel I added a few gold sequins and used glossy accents to secure them down.
All in all, this card took a total of about 20 minutes to complete! This technique is incredibly fast and could easily be a card you make in bulk to fill up your stash. Also, I do want to say that even though the bleach smells while you’re applying to the card base, I couldn’t really smell any trace of it on the card when I came back the next day to finish up the card, so no worries about your recipient getting that odor!
