A Shaker Card

I love looking at intereactive cards on social media and in the galleries online, but I’ll be honest, I do struggle with them. They take quite a bit of time and really don’t fit within my style very often. But today, a shaker card just fit right into the card I was making so I jumped at the opportunity. I have to say that using fun foam and the extremely thin easy tear adhesive tape really sped up the process and eliminated a lot of the frustration I normally feel when making these cards! Make sure to watch the video below to see exactly how I put together my clean and simple shaker card for today!!

I made a really fun gift background using the gift digital stamp in the “Christmas Accessories” digital stamp set from Craftin’ Desert Divas. Now I know that these are supposed to be Christmas gifts, but who says you can’t use them as birthday gifts? Using the stamp layering technique I filled up an entire 4″ x 5.25″ panel with the gifts and printed the panel with my laser printer.

For my coloring I used my alcohol markers and went in rainbow order for the coloring. Using two tones of each color for some shading I colored in each gift and kept all of the bows white with absolutely no coloring. If I did happen to get a bit of color here or there on some ribbon or I had some color bleed I just used a white gel pen to clean up any of my messes.

To put the frame together for the card, I used the Fancy Frames die set and did a bit of die cut inlay. After attaching a piece of acetate to the frame with double sided adhesive and doubling up strips of fun foam for added dimension, I sprinkled in a few different sequin mixes and used more double sided adhesive to adhere to the colored gift panel on to complete the shaker window. For my sentiment I used the “Wishful Thoughts” sentiment set and stamped and heat embossed “Wishing You” on black card stock and “the happiest birthday” on white card stock. I also made a banner end on the black card stock on the left hand side and then adhered each sentiment strip to the front of the shaker frame. Finally, I put the entire shaker frame onto an A2 top folding white card base, adhering it with more double sided adhesive.

The majority of the time I try to make interactive cards, especially shaker cards, I get so incredibly frustrated and eventually just give up. I have to say, this time everything came together perfectly and I couldn’t be happier with the end result.
