Welcome to the Joy Clair Stamps Mardi Gras Event!! Today, the entire DT is showcasing the “Mardi Gras” Stamp Set and there are so many wonderful cards along this hop today! Today, I used this set to do some two tone heat embossing and make a card that would be perfect for a Bachelorette Party, Birthday Party (21st), or any type of really fun girly party! Be sure to watch the video tutorial below to see exactly how I put this card together and how I used two glitter embossing powders for a two toned heat embossing technique!
ENJOY!!
To create a two toned effect with my embossing, I chose to use two different colors of embossing powder, Metallic Gold Sparkle and Long Island Teal, both from Wow!. I chose to combine these two, because the Long Island Teal color has some bits of gold in it so I decided to pick up on those. Using the three masks included in the Mardi Gras stamp set, my MISTI, and Versamark Ink I stamped down the masks and started embossing on an A2 white side folding card base. For the mask with the feathers on top I did the two tone embossing, applying the gold on the mask itself and the teal on the feathers. For the other two solid masks, I embossed one in gold and one in teal.
Because the embossing powders I used had glitter in them, I chose to heat emboss them from behind. It does take a bit longer to melt the powder this way, and it will feel like it isn’t working, but eventually it will melt. However, if you hit the glitter embossing powder directly with your heat tool, it will blow glitter EVERYWHERE and you won’t be left with a lot of it on your project!
With each of my masks embossed it was time to move onto the sentiment. I stamped “Let the Good Times Roll” onto a strip of blue card stock and also cut a strip of vellum and gold glitter card stock as well. Before layering up and adhering the strips into the center of the embossed panel, I put down a messy nest of light blue thread and then used the adhesive on the sentiment strips to hold that into place. To finish off this card I used Ranger Liquid Pearls in Pearl to scatter a few “pearls” around the card. Once the pearls had completely dried, I went back to the card and noticed, because of all the heat applied the card wasn’t closing as nicely as I would’ve liked it to, so I cut the card in half and them adhered the embossed panel onto an A2 side folding white card base. It still appears as a one layer card, but it closes and opens a lot nicer.
I hope you continue to hop along and visit each of the Designer’s blogs to see how they used this exact same stamp set to create some amazing projects! It is always so interesting to see how different people interpret and use the same stamp set in so many unique ways! I really enjoyed creating this card and I could see it being used for a bachelorette party, 21st birthday, or any fun really girly party!
