Die Cuts are a wonderful way to cut out stamped images and add interest and embellishment to your cards, but today I want to share with you a completely die cut scene. The only stamping done on my card for today was the sentiment and I used my inks for a little ink blending! While I love stamping, die cut scenes are so much fun to make. The only thing about die cut scene are they can sometimes add a lot of bulk or weight to your cards so be sure to think about the recipient and how long your card might have to travel in the mail! Make sure to watch the video below for all the details!
ENJOY!
When putting together a die cut, I like to do all of my die cutting first while I have my Big Shot out. First, I used the Fancy Frames die set and the largest scalloped rectangle to cut from white card stock. I used the brand new Box Die from Craftin’ Desert Divas to die cut a box from kraft card sotck. Finally, I pulled out the letter die from the brand new Truck Dies Die set (also from Craftin’ Desert Divas) and die cut it five times each from six colors of card stock for a total of 30 letters. I chose my card stock colors by matching the colors of sequins in the Pastel Paradise sequin mix. This was an easy way to coordinate six different colors of card stock!
Before I started assembling the scene I stamped my sentiment. I used my MISTI and Versamark Ink to stamp “Sending Birthday Wishes” onto the large white scalloped rectangle die in the top left hand corner. The rectangle was pretreated with an embossing bag, so I could easily sprinkle on some Princess Gold Embossing Powder and heat set it without any stray powder! I did a bit of ink blending on the bottom right hand corner of the panel with light pink, light purple, and antique linen inks. Finally, before putting my scene together I mounted the panel with fun foam and double sided adhesive onto a white A2 top folding card base.
I highly suggest putting as much of your card together as possible before starting on your scene, it just makes your life a bit easier and you don’t have as much wait time for things to dry! First, I assembled the box and adhered it over the ink blending with double sided adhesive. Then, using glossy accents I started “filling” the box with letters. I really wanted the box to appear as if it was completely full and stuffed with letters and in order for it to look as realistic as possible I made sure to fill in parts of the middle and top of the pile with letters and not just adhere from the bottom up. (Watch the video for a better explanation of this!) I also added a few letters long the bottom of the box for a more complete scene. Finally, I adhered quite a few sequins from the Pastel Paradise and Fairy Dust mixes using glossy accents and my QuickStik tool!
This card was one I made for the new release back in January, and I have just been hanging onto the video for awhile now. I hope you all enjoyed a little look back at a card I made and all the details!
