0I just cannot stay away from this little alligator image included in the Happy Trails stamp set from Craftin Desert Divas. Don’t get me wrong, I adore all of the images in this set, but for some reason I just keep grabbing this little guy and stamping him out! Today, I used this little guy along with two individual suitcase stamps from the same set to create this fun CAS Card. You can watch the video tutorial below to see all the details!
ENJOY!!
Starting with a 3.25″ x 5″ piece of white card stock and my MISTI, I first stamped the alligator in his car in the bottom right hand corner using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. Before I stamped I made sure to mask off the top handle of the suitcase, so I could continue stacking more on top without it getting in the way. I just used a small piece of painter’s tape to cover it up, inked up the stamp, and then removed the tape before stamping onto the paper. I continued to stack suitcases, using the two individual suitcases included in the set. Again, I made sure to mask off the handles while stamping so I could continue stacking. Also, to shake it up a bit, I turned some suit cases on their sides. This helps make it appear as if I am not using the same two stamps over and over and gives them a different appearance.
When I had finally filled up the top of the car until the suit cases were hanging off the top of the paper, I moved onto stamping the sentiment. Again, using my MISTI and Memento Tuxedo Black Ink, I stamped the “See You Later Alligator” sentiment included in the stamp set to the left of the scene. Next was coloring!! I pulled out several alcohol markers that were more warm and earth toned. I kept repeating those same colors through all of the suitcases to continue to carry the eye upward. The final touch to the scene was to add a very simple gray shadow underneath the car.
To assemble this car I simply mounted the scene panel onto a brick red mat. Then, these two panels were adhered onto an A2 top folding card base. I used double sided adhesive to secure everything down. Finally, I added a few drops of Enamel Accents in Glacier White around the stacked suitcases. This allows for more interest towards the top of the card and again, carries the eye upward towards the top of the card.
If you are looking for a simple and quick “Going” Away card that really makes an impression, this fits your bill! The masking is so simple and easy and allowed me to use one of my favorite techniques to create a scene without a lot of thought. I hope you all enjoyed today’s CAS card and found the video tutorial helpful!
