Recreating a Card with Joy Clair Stamps

Hello Everyone!! As is usual these days, I am not only sharing this card on my blog today, but also the Joy Clair Stamps Blog as well!! Be sure to head over there and check out what the rest of the DT has been up to lately!! Today, I wanted to recreate a card I made awhile back, but make a few significant changes so it looks like a completely new design. Be sure and watch the full video tutorial below to see exactly how I was inspired by an older card design and put this new card together!

Starting with an A2 sized watercolor panel, I stamped several of the flowers and leaves from the Doodle Flowers Stamp Set to create a background. I used Versamark Ink and white embossing powder, and also prepped my surface with my embossing bag to cut down on stray powders. Also, I worked in section so I didn’t overlap any of my stamped images. When working with Versamark Ink on white paper, it can be very hard to see, so adding embossing powder in sections allows you to have a better idea of where your stamping is.

After heat setting my entire panel, I pulled out a few Distress Inks and my water brush to do a bit of watercoloring. I kept it to one color for each different flower and for the background I used a wash of Salty Ocean to create the blue look. When create a large wash like this, you do need to move quick and keep working your color and making sure you don’t let it dry. If you do, you’ll end up with those harsh lines. Finally, I heat set the watercolor to speed up the drying time.

Putting this card together was very simple. I die cut the panel and also a kraft mat using the Mixed Rectangle die set from Tonic. I also die cut a smaller white cardstock panel for my sentiment and a kraft mat for it as well. Using the Hello Sentiments stamp set, I stamped hello in the center of the white card stock panel with black dye ink and my MISTI. To finish off the sentiment I also stamped “Sunshine” from the same set, onto a strip of yellow cardstock, cut into a banner. I mounted both panel onto their kraft panels, layered them onto an A2 side folding card base with fun foam for added dimension, and added the sunshine sentiment with more fun foam. Finally, I added quite a few drops of Liquid Pearls, in the Pearl color to add some dimension and shine.
