Hi Everyone!! Today I am sharing a video tutorial on creating sentiment backgrounds! Almost all stamp sets include sentiments and you can buy full sentiment sets as well, which are a great addition to your crafty stash, however, today I want to share with you how you can turn those sentiments into the focal point of your cards. Also, it doesn’t hurt that the brand new Sending Sentiments was just released this past month and it is quickly becoming one of my favorites!! So be sure and watch below to see how I created two cards with sentiment backgrounds!
For the first card I used the new Sending Sentiments Stamp Set. I wanted to create a “Thinking of You” or even a card that could be used a sympathy card. The first step was to choose a few sentiments that would correspond with that theme so I picked, Hugs, Thoughts, & Love, which also will finish the “Sending” die cut I plan to use later on. The next step was choosing a color palette. I went with more of a fall color palette – plum, brown, burnt orange, & green – but again this could be switched up to fit the season, occasion or even the recipients favorite colors! Be sure to watch the video tutorial above to see some tips & tricks on stamping the background!! But after filling up an A2 card base with the sentiments, I added in some fillers – letters from the “Special Delivery” Stamp Set to finish off the background! It was that easy!!
The second card was created in exactly the same, however, I used more than one sentiment set to mix up the fonts being used. I pulled out the Wishful Thoughts, Simply Said & Sending Sentiments stamp sets to really create a lot of interest on the background of a birthday shaker card. I also switched up the color combo (be sure and watch the video for tips on creating those!!) and also used one of the brand new Holiday Border dies that I altered to be better suited for a birthday card! The “filler” on this card was actually a small circle die that I cut from fun foam to stamp some “confetti” in the same color combination as the sentiments.
Here’s a look at both cards together. You can see how they similar in the technique and layouts, but also so very different!
So there you have my take on creating sentiment backgrounds! This is such a fun and easy technique that you can do with CDD stamps you already have on hand!! However, if you are interested in any of the Craftin Desert Divas products I used on my card today, you will find them linked below!! Happy Crafting everyone!!
