The marble pattern has become a bit of a hit in cardmaking recently and I have to admit, I LOVE IT!! It is such a great way to add some simple elegance, fun textures, and great patterns for your cards and paper crafting projects. I wanted to see if I could recreate this pattern without a stamp or a stencil, and after a lot of experimenting and playing around, getting ink EVERYWHERE, I finally found an easy process that you can customize to fit your needs. Watch the video tutorial below to see exactly how I did it!
For this technique I used watercolor markers, my Spectrum Noir Aqua Brush Markers to be exact. Any watercolor markers you have on hand will work, they just need a brush tip. Also, with this technique, I like to use plain card stock. The amount of water used will warp the paper, but I find that using watercolor paper allows the color to blend and bleed too much to really hold the pattern. One final thing, you can get two different backgrounds with this technique. The first “smoosh” gives a really solid pattern while the second “smoosh” gives more of a watercolor and blended look.
About the warping, to help avoid you can tape your paper down first, which will help. And after it dries you can put your paper under heavy objects or use a small craft iron to help flatten them out. I just use a lot of adhesive and that worked well for me!
One of my favorite things about this technique, you can customize it to fit your needs! If you want to add this to a boy’s birthday card, you can go with masculine colors. A baby, spring, or Easter card can feature pale colors and so on. If you want some help or inspiration for your color combos, you can head over to my Color Combo board on Pinterest!!
If you give this technique a try I would love to see it!! Be sure to tag me across social media! I will leave a supply list down below, but no links this time! This technique is more about using what YOU have in your stash already.
Thank you so much for stopping by and spending a bit of time with me today! Until next time, Happy Crafting!!
