Using Chalks & the Dove Blender Pen

Today I have a pet sympathy card to share with you. These are not fun cards to make at all, but I do have a few requirements for any type of sympathy card. They need to pretty but also quick. There is nothing worse than having a card that needs to be sent and have it take 3-4 hours to make. Also, I don’t want a lot going on on my sympathy cards. This is just personal preference but I much prefer to focus on the sentiments and what the inside says – so more focus on the recipient than on the card itself.

Today’s card may not be a sympathy card for a person, but pets are so important and can hurt just as much to lose, so remember to send cards for this moment too. You can watch how I made my pet sympathy card down below in the video tutorial!

For my stamping I used my MISTI and Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink. Just make sure whatever ink you use, that it will play well with the chalks and Dove Blender Pen. Testing on a small piece of scrap paper before you start your project is a good idea! Then it was time to color! I suggest watching the video above to see all the details about how I like to color and a few tips and tricks! Also, after you are done coloring and it dries, it is a good idea to set it. I used a cheap – not very sticky – hairspray. This way the chalks don’t smear as they are touched and going through the mail.

The inside of the card was super simple to stamp, but honestly, beautiful. I used the new Love, Joy, Friendship stamp and black ink to stamp in the center of an A2 top folding card base on the inside. Then, using the same Pet Circle stamp that I stamped on the outside, I did some second generation stamping over the saying on the inside for a ghosted look.

Back to the outside now that I had given my image time to dry. I kept it VERY simple on the outside. I put a black mat behind the colored panel and adhered the whole thing to the card base. Finally, I added a few drops of Enamel Accents in Black Tie to the circle around the pets to finish off the card.

Like I said above, I know these aren’t the most fun cards to make. But it is nice to have a good stash of them on hand to send out when the moment arises. If you are interested in the supplies I used on my card today, you will find them all linked down below. Happy Crafting Everyone!!
