This month I had the awesome privelege of guest designing for Kat Scrappiness during their new release and I posted three different cards featuring their new Butterfly Backdrop die. As soon as I laid eyes on this new die, I had so many different ideas! But I narrowed it down to three to share with you in today’s video tutorial! Be sure to watch down below for all the details!
Card 1 is probably the most involved and definitely the most shiny of the three! I used a fun glittering technique to cover the entire coverplate with different colors of glitter for a super shiny and fun background. I also added borders to the top and bottom of the finished card to break up the glitter a bit. I used the new Zig Zag Border Die Set from Kat Scrappiness for that great rounded zig zag! After adding my sentiment and a few brown jewels from Kat Scrappiness, this card was finished!!
My second card is a CAS design, but it has over the top dimension! After die cutting the background from white card stock I adhered an ink blended background so each butterfly had a nice, bright, inky appearance. Then, after scoring each little white butterfly right down the center, I inlaid them back into their openings on the background with a bit of foam tape in the center. This allowed for the wings to still be free from any adhesive and have some really fabulous dimension. Adding the ink background really draws the eye to the butterflies and a nice little surprise under each wing! Again, I finished this card with a quick sentiment and some white jewels from Kat Scrappiness!
My final card is super CAS so I decided to add a bit of interest in the actual card base, itself. I used the Zig Zag Rectangle Die Set from Kat Scrappiness to make a fun shaped card base! Be sure to watch the video and see how easy this is to do with ANY die cut! After ink blending a quick background, I used the die cut as a stencil to do a bit of silhouette stenciling! This is such a fun technique and I’ve shared it in a video tutorial before. You can check that out HERE! Again, I finished this card with a quick sentiment and some silver jewels from Kat Scrappiness!
If you noticed, I did use the Kat Scrappiness jewels on each of my designs for today. I absolutely LOVE these!! They come in so many wonderful colors and are a super cheap way to add some shine and interest to your finished project! Here’s a look at the colors Kat Scrappiness offers – minus the gold, because I forgot the add it to the photo! If you were only to get a few would recommend starting with the clear and white! You can add your alcohol markers over the top to give them some color to match your project!
Even though I already shared three different ideas with this background, I can’t wait to share even more in the future! If you are interested in any of the supplies I used on my card today, you can find them all linked down below! Until next time, Happy Crafting!!
