A Basket Shaped Card Without a Machine

This month Joy Clair Stamps is teaming up with The Cutting Cafe to bring you a ton of fun projects! When I was first notified about this collaboration I was a bit panicked because I do not have an electronic cutting machine and no way to cut digital cut files. Little did I know that The Cutting Cafe also offers their files in PDF format so anyone can use them! Watch today’s video tutorial to see how I made a fun shaped card using just the PDF file and some fussy cutting!

There are quite a lot of parts to this card and I would really suggest watching the video for the full run down on creating this card! But here are a few tips that I learned along the way. First, I like to print everything onto white card stock and add my color with ink blending. You could also use markers, colored pencils, watercolors, etc. You could also print on colored card stock or patterned paper, but I find it easier to start with white card stock and add my color later after fussy cutting.

Another tip, when assembling I like to use liquid glue. This allows a little play time to get the placement of the all the different pieces right before it’s fully adhered and can’t be moved. And while I’m on the topic of adhesive, use a STRONG adhesive. This is a card with a lot of little pieces being adhered together to create one larger component. You don’t want it falling apart, so be sure to use a quality, strong adhesive while you’re putting it together!

Finally, take your time and have fun putting this together! If you try and hurry with this card, it won’t work and things will shift and fall apart. And it does take some time. I like to take things in steps, as in, I fussy cut everything first, then ink blended, them put the card together.

I hope you found those tips helpful and enjoyed the video for today! This card, although a lot of work, was fun to put together and I adore the way it turned out!
