I have a few embossing folders, but I have to admit that I don’t use them often. However, I am always trying to find new techniques to use them with and incorporate them into my card making. Today, I wanted to use some VERY seldomly used embossing folders with larger focal points and make them the center of attention on my cards. In order to do that, I used ink and masks to do a bit of “highlighting”. Keep reading below for all the information!
My first card is a redesign, and I have created a card very similar to this one. But when Joy Clair Stamps released the new “Boss Babe” stamp set sentiments would fit so well with this embossing folder. So I remade the card with a few improvements! To watch how I made the old card head HERE!!
On my second card I used the same exact technique as the first. I inked up and “stamped” both cacti onto post it notes. Then, with a craft knife, I cut the cactus stamps to make homemade stencils. This allowed me to place the stencils over the cacti and ink blend over the top of the embossed areas to highlight them! I also used the same “Boss Babe” sentiment set from Joy Clair for this card as well!
And while I love utilizing my rarely used embossing folders that have main focal points, you can also use this technique for your well loved folders, too! One of my most used embossing folders is my wood grain embossing folder. To highlight an area on a full embossed panel, I like to use a regular die and make a homemade stencil with computer paper. Then, you can add your image anywhere over the embossed panel for a fun effect! Again, I used a sentiment set from Joy Clair stamps to finish the card. I used one of my favorites, “You Got This”.
