Awhile back I created a set of cards with a silhouette stenciling technique. You can find the video tutorial HERE. Today, I wanted to use that same technique, but instead of stencils, I wanted to use stamps to make these cards super quick and easy! I created three different cards in less than an hour! Keep reading below for the details on each card!
All of my cards today are very basic and you don’t need a lot of supplies to create them. Only a colored ink pad, something to mask with (optional), stamps and a black ink pad is really it. My first card I did take it a step further. I started by masking the edges of a white cardstock panel with painter’s tape and then ink blending the entire area with a lighter purple ink. (I used Catherine Pooler’s Sweet Sixteen.) When the area was completely covered with color, I overlaid a stencil and using a darker purple (CP’s Sugared Lavender) I added the ink through the stencil for a tone on tone stenciled look.
After removing the painter’s tape I used the Crackerbox & Suzy Stamps Leafy Branch stamp to stamp along the left side, making sure some of the stamp was not in the masked area. I also added a thinking of your sentiment to finish the card!
If you want a shaped masked area, you can also use your dies to mask off the area instead of tape! My second project has a circle shaped area. I used a circle die and cut it from a larger piece of computer paper to mask the circular area.
After blending a few blue inks to create a sky background I kept the mask in place this time and stamped the beach grass stamp in black ink. I added a quick here for you sentiment and white Nuvo drops to finish this card!
My final project is by far the easiest and quickest! To make my colorful oval all I did was use the Lime Rickey ink pad from Catherine Pooler and smooshed it onto the cardstock! Seriously, that’s all there was to it!!
After adding a quick Circle Flower stamp and a happy birthday sentiment all that was left was to add a few black Nuvo drops. This card took less than ten minutes to make!
Here’s a few tips to leave you with. First, use a nice, pigmented, juicy black ink pad that will give you FULL COVERAGE for your stamping. I like the Catherine Pooler Midnight Ink. A stamp positioner will also help with this technique. I used my MISTI on each of my cards today. And finally, take your time! With simple cards your mistakes can shine through the design. So take your time while assembling these cards!
This technique is so much fun and if you love as much as me, don’t forget to check out the silhouette stenciling video tutorial! You can find it below!!
