I love using dimension on cards as much as the next person, but sometimes I want to keep it really clean and simple. I find one layer cards so beautiful and while I am a CAS card maker, one layer cards are a struggle for me. I never know if there’s enough interest on the cards or if maybe I added too much! In today’s video tutorial I am sharing some tips and tricks that help me when creating one layer cards. Be sure to watch the video tutorial below for all the details!
Some items used in the video above were sent to me free of charge for design purposes. I only ever design for companies I can stand behind 100%. To see who I currently or have previously designed for head HERE.
Being a CAS card maker, I don’t do a ton of large embellishments, ribbons, layers upon layers of dimension etc, but believe it or not, one layer cards are such a struggle for me! I never know where the “line” is on having enough on a card or just looking like I threw a stamp on a card and called it good. Here are a few tricks I like to use to add interest to my one layer cards!

The first technique I love to use on one layer cards is masking. Creating the illusion of a frame with just masking is such an easy way to add interest and break up the card. It also helps bring the focal point of the card more into focus. I used painter’s tape on my first card and a die with computer paper on the second card.

Another great way to be sure your one layer cards have enough interest is to be sure and choose large enough images or more than one if need be. And just a quit tip, when stamping or creating any elements be sure to take your time. Any mistake will be much more evident on clean and simple card designs like this!
