Sometimes I just want to make my card fronts a little more interesting. And to do that today, I’m doing just that with card fronts that are shaped!

The Video Tutorial
Be sure to watch the video to see exactly how I created both of my cards today! Some of the supplies used in the video were sent to me free of charge for design purposes. I only ever design for companies I can stand behind 100%! To see who I currently or have previously designed for, head HERE.
The First Card
You don’t need any dies or special tools in order to create shaped card fronts. All you need is some scissors! I did use a stencil, an OLD one that I bought when I was in high school!! Using a pencil, I drew the heart with a very light hand. Then, I just used my scissors to cut on the lines!

To help the heart stand out from the inside panel I added some stenciling. I did mask a heart on the inside panel just to be sure I would have a space to write a greeting!

To finish the outside of this card I added a few stamps. I used Joy Clair Stamp Sets. The dinosaur is from the “Dino Love” stamp set and the sentiment is from “Love Languages“.
Also, I added a small little glittered heart die cut to the dino. If you want to check out how to create your own DIY Glitter Paper head to my video tutorial to learn how!

The Second Card
If you’re not comfortable with your cutting skills, you can use dies for this technique as well. That’s what I did on my second card. I used a large circle die to die cut the bottom third of the card off. This gave the card front a nice rounded look! If you don’t have dies, you could easily trace a plate and cut with your scissors.

I used a circle die because I wanted to make my card front into a moon for a space themed card. In order to make the front look like the moon, I ink blended with a light gray ink and then with a darker gray ink, I blended in some darker gray circles.
I also needed my moon to look as if it was in space. To do that I added a black strip of cardstock to the bottom portion of the inside panel. I also stamped a few stars with Staz On Pigment Ink in Snowflake. The stamps are from the “Out of This World” stamp set from Joy Clair Stamps.

The final touches to this card are super simple! I first stamped and colored the rocket ship image from the “Out of This World” stamp set. Because I colored the image with alcohol markers, I stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I did fussy cut the image so I could pop it up with a bit of foam tape.
And finally, I added a sentiment banner. I went with the “I Hope Your Birthday is a Blast!” sentiment from the same stamp set. Versafine Clair in Nocturne is the ink I used because it is my FAVORITE to use for sentiment because it is so crisp!

It is so easy to make shaped card fronts and there are so many ways to get fantastic results! I hope you all liked the video and found some ideas you can use on your own cardmaking projects!
