There are so many things you can do with solid stamps. I know so many of you love coloring, but when I need a quick card, solid stamps are my go to. One of my favorite things to do with solid stamps is create quick and easy scenes. Today, I want to share with you how to create easy silhouette scenes with solid stamps from Crackerbox & Suzy Stamps. Watch the video below for all the details!

The Video Tutorial

Making the Easy Silhouette Scenes
Just Because City Scape

Ink blended backgrounds are a great way to add some interest to your silhouette scenes. I haven’t played or blended with my Distress Inks in awhile, so that’s what I went with on this background. I also used my Mini Ink Blending Tool, which I also haven’t used in awhile.
This background is blended with ink colors Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade, Barn Door, and Chipped Sapphire.

Once I had the blend that I wanted, I added a few ink splattered “stars” to top . I like to use white acrylic paint mixed with a bit of water, then after loading up my paint brush, I flick the paint onto the background. To keep the stars more focused towards the top of the panel, I used a torn piece of paper as a mask and added heavy splatters. Then, I removed the mask and added just a few more to blend everything together.

The solid stamp I am using for my silhouette city scape is from Crackerbox & Suzy Stamps. It’s called “City Scape”. Their stamps are high quality red rubber, so they are perfect for solid stamping. Even so, I still use my MISTI to stamp the image, so I can double or triple stamp to get the most opaque image. Also, I used Versafine Clair in Nocturne, which is a black pigment ink. Pigment inks give such a solid stamped image over the dye ink!
The sentiment is also from Crackerbox & Suzy Stamps. It’s from the “Tiny Words Set 3” stamp set. I added it to a flag banner die cut and this card was done after adhereing all the elements to an A2 top folding card base.
Circus Happy Birthday Handmade Card

Your ink blended backgrounds definitely do not need to be realistic to create your scenes! On this birthday card, I went with a more colorful approach. I used a rainbow of Distress Inks to ink blend my background!
The colors I used are Picked Raspberry, Spiced Marmalade, Mustard Seed, Twisted Citron, Peacock Feathers, and Dusty Concord.

I absolutely the “Circus Border” stamp from Crackerbox & Suzy Stamps that I used to create this silhouette scene. But, it needs proper alignment because of the border on the bottom. Be sure to watch the video above to see how I get the placement correct for this rubber stamp in my MISTI!

To finish this card I used one of my favorite sentiments from Crackerbox & Suzy Stamps. It’s the “Happy Birthday Fancy” stamp and I absolutely love the size and font of this one!
Tips and Tricks for Stamping with Solid Stamps
I know a lot of us struggle with solid stamps and getting them to stamp well. Here are a few tips and tricks that help me!
- I love clear stamps, however, I find that when it comes to solid stamping rubber works best. That’s why I LOVE Crackerbox & Suzy Stamps. I know I’m getting a crisp image with each stamp because of the high quality red rubber!
- If you struggle with solid stamps and getting the best result, it may be time to invest in a stamp positioner. I love my MISTI and mini MISTI. Being able to double or even triple stamp gives me the peace of mind when I’m stamping, and I tend not to overthink it or make myself too nervous with this fall back!
- Make sure you are using a juicy ink pad. Whether you choose a pigment or dye ink pad, be sure it is well inked and the ink is completely covering your image. A dry ink pad can leave edge marks, splotchy patterns, or just give an uneven appearance to your stamped image.
- Smooth paper works best! This especially goes for when you are not using a stamp positioner. Any texture can really mess with your stamping.
I hope you all enjoyed a look at creating these easy silhouette scenes! They are so fun and quick.
