Making the DIY Polymer Clay Sprinkles
Once you have your supplies, making the DIY polymer clay sprinkles is very easy! First, condition your clay and put it through your extruder to make ropes.
Then, you bake those ropes in your oven at the temperature that is on your clay’s package for 10 minutes. They don’t take long, so keep an eye on them!
Finally, once they’ve baked and cooled, use scissors to cut the ropes in sprinkle sized pieces. It’s that easy!
Storing Your DIY Polymer Clay Sprinkles
These DIY polymer clay sprinkles are addicting to make, especially when you start to make your own custom mixes and colors! Storing any colors and leftovers might be a question that you have. You can buy small storage/jewelry bags from Amazon for fairly cheap.
Or you can use a clear storage container, like the ones here!
Benefits of Creating Your Own DIY Polymer Clay Sprinkles
Because you can buy polymer clay sprinkles already made, you might be wondering why you would even need to create your own. Here are a few reasons.
Price
If you’re making a lot of projects using polymer clay sprinkles or you have a project that requires a lot of them, it’s going to be cheaper. The cheapest I have found premade polymer clay sprinkles is $3.00 USD for a small bag. By the time you have bought five bags of them, you have paid for the extruder, which is a one time purchase. And with only a half a block of clay (1 oz.) I made double the amount that is in a small bag that I paid for.
Customization
By making your own DIY polymer clay sprinkles you can custom what you make to fit your needs. This includes –
- Mixing custom colors to fit your project and needs. You can mix different colors of clay to make a fun color that you just can’t find anywhere else.
- Using fun effect clays to make pearl, glitter, and translucent colors.
- Mixing different colors of sprinkles to create custom mixes for different occasions and holidays.
It’s Fun!
This is a fun way to spend an afternoon. I like to watch a movie or listen to a podcast while I make my own DIY polymer clay sprinkles. And my daughter LOVES to help and this is one of those projects where she can!
